“And What if You Could Have Each Heart’s Desire…”

A Spencerian sonnet  I wrote in February of 1996

And what if you could have each heart’s desire
Precisely as your fancy saw it clear,
Each hunger that did fill your heart with fire,
Each calling that the craving soul could hear,
Each fantasy your inner self held dear,
Perfected both in form and nature, too,
Each vision that could bring your spirit cheer,
Precisely as you wished and brought to you,
A dream, a vision, suddenly made true?
Though I have not the bounty of a King,
This Magic is the least that Love can do,
And thus, a dream made real is what I bring;
This little gift, this slice of heart’s desire,
This dream, this vision, for thy joy entire.
