Adventure at the Steampunk World’s Fair

When you start out writing, you’re always told to “write what you know.”

But what if you want to write what you don’t know? What if you want to fly into a totally different world, experience alien cultures, have adventures, meet interesting people and boldly go where no person (or not so many…) have gone before?

One way to do this is to imagine it. Build a new world in your mind.

But another way is to immerse yourself in that other world if you can,

And have I got a window on another world for you….

Want to write Steampunk? One of the best ways to immerse yourself in the Steampunk culture is to grab your goggles and board a dirigible bound for the Steampunk World’s Fair on May 18th to 20th in Piscataway, N.J.

They’ll have all kinds of diversions and entertainments. Games of chance and skill. More amazing costumes than you could wear in a lifetime. Panels and classes and films on topics of appeal to the new Victorians. Shops with an assortment of steampunk gear.

And lots and lots of lovely Steampunk people. Scientists and adventuresses and explorers and plucky girls and a host of other people who are interesting to watch and a pleasure to know.

To quote Jeff Mach, the creator of this extravagant event  “We wish to create unbelievable and unforgettable pleasure, camaraderie, friendship, and joy for each and every single person who walks into our event….”

New worlds to conquer. Amazing entertainment. Games and diversions. Astounding costumes. Classes and panels.  Interesting people.

Sounds fun right?…..

I won’t be able to make this fantastic extravaganza this year, as I’ll be immersed in the Middle Ages in Connecticut instead; but that doesn’t mean that you can’t plunge headfirst into the adventure of the Steampunk World’s Fair.

Immerse yourself in the worlds of Steampunk. Bring back something fantastic to write about. And while you’re at it, have a wonderful time 🙂
