When dealing with distractions from writing, the first step is to know what your own personal distractions are. Distractions are not “off-the rack-one-size-fits-all” and what is a major distraction for one person may bareley scratch the surface of another person’s consciousness.
You may be distracted by
- Your spouse
- Your kids
- Your friends
- TV
- Social media
- Jobs
- Sleep
- Parties
- Raiding the fridge
- Commitments
- Going out
- or any of a million other things
The first step is to know what really can take you off track from writing if you let it, so you can know what you’re vulnerable to and head it off before it gets its hooks into you (or possibly even harness it to help you write more and better…)
So, take a minute now. What are your top ten things that distract you from writing?
Then watch these things in the week to come, and notice if there are any other things tha belong on this list.
More on distractions on the way..
(and if you want to see where this started..)
