Breaking Through My Blocks

I’ve always been a writer to one extent or another but in the last few years, my writing has really taken off. I’ve been doing blogs, writing articles for magazines, writing and publishing books.

It’s been an amazing ride.

That made it even more stressful when this year I ran up against some major writing blocks.

I started a new job with a lot of paperwork that rapidly expanded to fill every minute it could and more so. I started work on a book with a challenging topic, and found myself starting writing, backing up and starting again over and over. I found myself exhausted and fuzzy headed and slowed by blocks to a crawl. I still was writing, but I knew that I was capable of so much more than that and it was rather discouraging.

And so this weekend I resolved to hunker down, muscle up and change that. To break through my blocks.

I changed the topic of this year’s book to something that would flow more easily. (I will still write the other book but I can see now that it will take more time to develop and mature before I can get it into its final form,) I dedicated big blocks of my weekend to writing. I made sure that I actually got some writing done before I took a break and play.

I committed fully to my writing. To myself as a writer.

At the start of the weekend, I had nothing written.

And  by now, I have a first draft eight chapters out of twenty five  for this year’s book. I have the rough draft of the magazine article I’ve committed to write basically done, except for the closing. I’ve written a class description for a new class and sent it out. And I’ve just finished three blog posts for the coming week.

The closed door is opening. The writing is beginning to flow again. And I’m so excited about the writing to come.

Come do the happy writing dance with me!
