Find Time for Writing…

It’s a classic refrain-

“I’d love to write that poem/short story/article/novella/novel/book/expose, but I just don’t have the time!!!!!”

well, that’s true….and then again it isn’t.

You see, our beliefs tend to affect how we interact with the world around us. We tend to develop beliefs and the we do what’s called “sorting”- we look for the evidence that supports our beliefs and sort of edit out things that don’t fit in with them.

And the more “evidence” we get that supports a belief, the stronger our belief becomes.

Why does that matter?

well, from a material standpoint, we will tend to chose how we act, based on the beliefs we hold. For instance, if we believe we don’t have the time to write, we’re probably not going to try very hard to do so- and then, when we don’t write anything, that only strengthens that belief that we don’t have enough time to write

As if that were not enough, from an energetic standpoint, our beliefs tend to shape the nature of reality around us. So, if we believe that we just don’t have enough time to write, we’ll find more and more things popping up in our lives that demand our attention and take up the time that we’d otherwise spend on writing…

Let me propose a different thought…

We all have all the time there is….

And again…

We all have all the time there is….

The bottom line is that each and every one of us has all the time at any moment that is available. The question is just what we choose to use it on.

This is a philosophy that has helped me for years to do things that I thought at first to be impossible. Perhaps it can help you with that too.

We’ll be looking in the future at other ways to find the time to write

Happy writing

  1. So very true, Catherine! We find the time for what we think we have time for, or what we believe we must find time for. If we don’t put our writing at the top of the list, no one else is going to either. If we don’t make the time, no one else will give it any importance either and they will spend our time for us.

    • Right on! There are so many different and delightful things clamoring for our attention, but the only way that we become writers is to say that writing is important to us and do that first 🙂
