Music to Learn By

Got a child who’s having problems learning a more complex activity?

Try giving it theme music 🙂

The formal name for this is “filk songs”. Pick a familiar song that the child knows, and write new words that list the steps they have to do- then sing along as they go through the steps.

Throughout history, the rhythm of poetry and  music has been used to help people to remember things, and it still works today.

(By the by, it doesn’t just work for kids either. When I sing my order at Starbucks, baristas are far more accurate in getting me what I’m looking for…)
