…then check your facts.
I’ve noticed a lot of alarm and hullabaloo online this week about the changes that Amazon is making to how it pays authors in their Kindle Unlimited program.
Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to be confused about the actual facts in the situation
- They don’t know that this doesn’t apply to all books on Amazon
- They don’t know the difference between the KU program and other programs for ebooks
- They believe that Amazon is setting out to rob authors
- They believe that this is the first step towards forcing writers to write for free
Whew!
Hey guys, relax. It’s not as bad as you think it is
A lot of the craziness seems to be coming out of articles circulating on FB. Some of them (but not all) have exaggerated headlines that seemed designed to cause fear and anxiety, or leave out important details that would let people make informed decisions on this change; and when we try to give folks the facts, they’re so wound up that they can’t hear anything but the craziness.
Not sure, but I think some writers write this way because fear builds followings; but it certainly gets people stressed out far more than the have to be.
Please don’t let the fear mongers get to you, in this situation or in any other. When you hear news that seems amazingly bad, please remain calm
- Read the fine print
- Read discriminatingly
- Check your facts
- watch not only what the writers say, but also what they don’t say
And don’t let the fear mongers fool you
Happy trails
