Library Odyssey

This year, my birthday has been flanked by two separate library books sales. (It’s like they did it just for me!) I drove an hour each way yesterday for the $5 a bag of books day and came home laden with a wide assortment of interesting looking books and a smile so big it almost met in the back.

I love book sales- and if you like to read, or like to write, you should too. Book sales give us access to a wide assortment of different kinds of books at very reasonable prices. Because the prices are reasonable, you’ll think about reading something that you wouldn’t try under normal circumstances. By doing that, you’ll broaden your horizons, get exposure to more and different kinds of writing, learn more about what to do and what not to do with your own work, and develop your own individual writer’s voice.

Access to free or inexpensive books- gotta love it, whether it’s library books sales, the discount tables at the book store, tag sales, gifts of books from family or friends, or going to the library and checking something out for two weeks. When you get the chance to try something different, jump right in. You might like it

and now I’ve got to find room on my “to be read” shelf for my new treasures….
